Paying your bill on time

For all students, tuition and fee charges must be paid, or a payment plan set up, by the published payment deadline in order to avoid a late fee.

  • Late fees are charged once per term to students with a balance who are not enrolled in a payment plan.
  • Students enrolled in a payment plan may be charged a late installment fee for each installment that is late or not paid in full.
  • If you expect to receive financial aid, we encourage you to check to see if it applied to your account before the payment deadline.  If you have questions about your aid, contact the Financial Aid Office at 785.670.1151 or
  • If financial aid is delayed because your are a first-time freshman or first-time borrower and the aid will cover your balance when it is applied 30 days into the term, you do not need to set up a payment plan as long as your account shows your aid is memoed and waiting to disburse.
  • If financial aid is split into two disbursements because you are considered a single-term student for financial aid purposes and it will cover your balance in full when it is released at the mid-point of the term, you do not need to set up a payment plan as long as your account shows your aid is memoed and waiting to disburse.  All Fall graduates and all Summer students are considered single-term students for financial aid purposes.
  • If financial aid is delayed because your FAFSA was not submitted on time, or that other financial aid or admissions requirements were not completed on time, you will be obligated to meet the payment deadline or enroll in a payment plan.
  • If financial aid is delayed for reasons beyond your control, the late charge will be waived if you pay any balance not covered by the financial aid by the payment deadline.
  • Payment for any class added after the payment deadline is due upon enrollment.
  • Information for High School CEP Students is available here
  • The Business Office will place a “hold” on your account. This prevents the release of your transcript or diploma and may prevent continued or future enrollment.
  • The “hold” is not removed until your bill has been paid in full.
  • A late fee may be charged. The amount of that fee is determined by the number of credit hours enrolled for Washburn students and is a flat $50 for Washburn Tech students. See the table below for details.

  • If you believe you should not be charged a late fee, you can submit a Late Fee Waiver request. To qualify for a late fee waiver, you must demonstrate that the failure to settle the account balance in a timely manner was due to an error on the part of Washburn University. Late fee waiver requests must be submitted no later than 30 days after the end of the term in which the late fee was applied. When submitting the waiver request via email, please send it to from your Washburn email account.
