Payment Deadlines

All tuition and fee charges must be paid, or a payment plan set up, by the published “last day to pay without a late fee” in order to avoid penalties. The last day to set up a Fall payment plan is September 1, 2017 for all Washburn and Washburn Tech students.  The payment deadlines for Fall 2017 are:

Student responsibilities

  • If you expect to receive financial aid, check to be sure it has been released to your account by the payment deadline.
  • If your aid is delayed because your FAFSA was not submitted on time, or other requirements were not completed on time, you are still obligated to meet the payment deadline.
  • If your aid is late for another reason beyond your control, the late charge will be waived if you pay the balance not covered by the financial aid by the payment deadline.
  • Payment for classes enrolled in after the payment deadline is due upon enrollment.

 If your bill isn’t paid on time

  • The Business Office will place a “hold” on your account. This prevents the release of your transcript or diploma and may prevent continued or future enrollment.
  • The “hold” is not removed until your bill has been paid in full.
  • A late fee may be charged. The amount of that fee is determined by the number of credit hours you are enrolled in. See the table below for details.


Late Fee

Up to 3 credit hours


3.5 to 6 credit hours


6.5 to 9 credit hours


9.5 or more credit hours


  • If you believe you should not be charged a late fee, you can submit a Late Fee Waiver request.  To qualify for a late fee waiver, you must demonstrate that the failure to settle the account balance in a timely manner was due to an error on the part of Washburn University. Late fee waiver requests must be submitted in the same term in which the late fee is charged.
