FAQ

As with all computer operating systems, there is an established life cycle. Windows 7 was released to market in October of 2009, and has long since been a workhorse for large computer installations such as here at Washburn. However, the time has come to replace Windows 7 with a modern system, and that system is Windows 10.

Support for Windows 7 will end in February 2020. Therefore, Washburn University must begin to phase out Windows 7 as quickly as possible. All new computers installed as of Fiscal Year 2019, and moving forward, will be equipped with Windows 10. Existing computers that are capable of running 10 will be upgraded over the following 12-16 months, beginning with Classrooms and Computer Labs, followed by Faculty and Staff machines. You may request to upgrade early by emailing support@washburn.edu.
