New Student Orientation

Students who attend New Student Orientation will be prepared with crucial information for a successful transition their first year at Washburn University. Orientation provides students the opportunity to meet with current students, faculty and staff, learn expectations of the academic setting, and register for their first semester courses.

  • Get your Washburn Student ID 
  • Learn tips and tricks from current WU students
  • Navigate MyWashburn online portal
  • Familiarize yourself with student life at Washburn
  • Meet with an advisor and get your class schedule
  • Explore our university services

New Student Orientation Dates

All programs begin around 8 a.m., ending by 5 p.m., and include breakfast and lunch. Guests are encouraged to attend. There is currently no fee to attend orientation.

  • Wednesday, May 22, 2019 - FULL
  • Thursday, May 23, 2019 - FULL
  • Thursday, June 6, 2019 - FULL
  • Friday, June 7, 2019 - FULL

  • Wednesday, August 14, 2019

Registration for New Student Orientation is currently open. In order to register for an orientation session, you will need to use your email address and password that you used for your Washburn admissions application - not your Washburn email address.

Transfer Student Orientation Dates

All Transfer Student Orientation programs are half-days and include refreshments. Guests are encouraged to attend. There is currently no fee to attend orientation. Transfer students are not required to attend orientation, but highly encouraged.

Incoming Fall 2019 students:

  • Thursday, August 8, 2019, 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

What to Bring to Orientation

  • Bring photo identification to get your Washburn Student ID.
  • Your MyWashburn login information to enroll into classes.
  • Unofficial copies of transcripts (for students who are transferring college credit from a different institution).
  • Comfy shoes and clothes. Consider that your iCard photo will be a head-and-shoulders photo.
  • Questions! We hope to provide you with answers to "take care of business" before you start classes at Washburn.
