Western Writers of America named American Hero as the Best First Nonfiction Book of 2023
Clyde Toland's book American Hero, Kansas Heritage: Frederick Funston’s Early Years, 1865-1890 was named the Best First Nonfiction Book of 2023 by Western Writers of America.
The Thomas Fox Averill Kansas Studies Collection worked with Clyde to make his book a reality and Flint Hills Books brought the book to publication with help from the Center for Kansas Studies.
