Handshake is where employers post jobs and internships for Washburn students and alumni (pending Career Engagement approval). It’s a good place to learn about specific employers and employer recruiting events at Washburn. Local, nationwide, and global positions are always up to date in Handshake and are geared toward recent graduates and alumni. Internships and part-time jobs (off-campus) are available year round.
Handshake is also where students schedule appointments with WU Career Engagement Specialists for career counseling, resume / letter reviews, mock interviews, and other career development discussions.
Students use their Washburn credentials to login at Washburn.joinhandshake.com
If your student has questions, please refer them to Career Engagement for help: 785-670-1450 or career-services@washburn.edu!
If you would like to monitor incoming jobs or internships, meet employers during a virtual career fair or event, or just get a feel for the system, follow these steps to gain access to a student account:
- Go to Washburn.joinhandshake.com
- In the upper right corner select: No Account Sign Up Here!
- Select student/alumni account
- Use your Washburn credentials to log in
- You will have the same functionality as a student
NOTE: If you have enrolled for a Washburn class, you likely already have a Handshake account. If you're not sure, email to ask: career-services@washburn.edu.
Do you want to help employers post positions in Handshake or get connected to Washburn students and WU career events? Employers log in to their own free Handshake account to post positions and to register for events: app.joinhandshake.com. You can simply forward their contact information or their request to share a job posting to career-services@washburn.edu and we will follow up with them. WU Career Engagement cannot post positions in Handshake for employers.
For more information about working with employers, please see A Faculty Guide to Ethical and Legal Standards In Student Employment from the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), of which Washburn University is a member.
Need a "SIC" Day? This program brings Career Engagement into the classroom when a faculty member is away for professional travel or personal issues. Career Engagement will speak to your class about career-related issues during your absence. Some examples of possible topics are above.
NOTE: We need advance notice to do SIC Days, usually at least a week.
