The vision of the COACH program is to have a positive presence in the communities through health screenings and preventative health as well as providing inter-professional students and faculty from Washburn an opportunity to engage in High Impact practices within the community and to develop team skills working together. The three service lines include:
Primary Care
- Valeo
- providing primary care in-situ
- caring for Valeo clients inter-professionally with the behavioral health specialists
- providing nurse practitioner students with clinical experiences under the tutelage of faculty
- Pine Ridge Family Health Center
- collaboration with Topeka Housing Authority
- affordable primary and urgent care to public housing development
- health literacy programs
- Headstart Programs
- providing Kan-Be-Healthy check-ups and lead testing
- providing these services 2 times per year with graduate and undergraduate students
- providing health preventative care
TeamSTEPPS and Mobile Simulation
- Providing TeamSTEPPS training as well as scenario-based simulations to many community agencies and healthcare providers. Disciplines and agencies that have taken part include:
- Mental Health Agencies
- Long Term Care
- Critical Access Hospitals
- Washburn Tech and Washburn University faculty and students
Community Outreach
- Over 3000 community members touched and 300 students impacted annually
