In this program, you'll learn to do just that by mixing knowledge of theory with practical skill. Meet D'Mya who found her home in the Communication Studies Department
D'Mya Valdivia didn't plan to major in Communication when she came to Washburn, but encouragement from one of her professors and success in an introductory class inspired her to make the switch. She enjoys the way her Communication Studies classes are close-knit and have classmates who offer different viewpoints to explore.
Graduate with experience:
- All students complete either an internship or an original research capstone. Some choose to do both.
- 20 percent of program graduates continue to graduate school.
- 57 percent of majors graduate in four years.
First year courses

Second year courses

Pro tips: Work with your advisor to tailor your experience through CN electives. Consider applying to be a First Year Experience (FYE) Peer Educator or a Summer Orientation Counselor.
Third year courses
Courses: CN304/305, CN electives
Pro tips: Take a leadership position within the Communication Club. Look into joining the Lambda Pi Eta honor society. Complete research and apply to attend a communication conference.
Fourth year courses
Courses: CN 491: Capstone Internship OR CN 498: Senior Capstone, remaining CN electives.
