Philosophy and Religious Studies Scholarships

  • Jolee Houx Philosophy Scholarship Fund: This scholarship is available for currently enrolled Philosophy majors with at least a 3.0 GPA overall, and at least a 3.0 Philosophy major GPA. Decisions concerning award of Houx scholarship funds will be made by Department faculty based solely on academic performance.

  • Russ and Vickie Jacobs Scholarship Fund: This scholarship is available for currently enrolled Philosophy majors with at least a 3.0 GPA overall at Washburn, and at least a 3.0 Philosophy major GPA. It is also available for currently enrolled Philosophy minors who are currently engaged in upper division Philosophy coursework. Such minors must also have a 3.0 GPA overall, and at least a 3.0 Philosophy minor GPA to be eligible. Decisions concerning award of Jacobs funds will be made by Department faculty based solely on academic performance.

  • Jorge L. Nobo Scholarship Fund: This scholarship is available for currently enrolled Philosophy majors. Decisions concerning award of Nobo scholarship funds will be made by Department faculty based on outstanding academic or leadership potential. This is a significant, generous scholarship.

  • Dr. Phillip W. Whitcomb Scholarship Fund: This scholarship is available for currently enrolled Philosophy majors or minors. Decisions concerning award of Whitcomb scholarship funds will be made based on academic excellence (as measured by GPA), demonstrated academic effort and improvement, financial need, or extracurricular contributions to the Philosophy program.

  • Glen Tuchscherer Scholarship Fund: This scholarship is available for currently enrolled Religious Studies majors or minors. Decisions concerning award of Tuchscherer scholarship funds will be made based on academic excellence (as measured by GPA), demonstrated academic effort and improvement, or extracurricular contributions to the Religious Studies program. Preference in selection and award amount will be given to Religious Studies majors.

  • The Urban Family Scholarship Fund: This scholarship is available for currently enrolled Philosophy or Religious Studies majors or minor. Decisions concerning award of Urban Family scholarship funds will be made based on academic excellence (as measured by GPA), demonstrated academic effort and improvement, financial need, or extracurricular contributions to the Philosophy or Religious Studies programs.
