Gordon Parks was born in 1912 near Fort Scott, Kansas. He began taking pictures in 1937 after he saw an ad in a magazine for a photography opportunity with the Farm Security Administration. Parks soon delved into fashion and portrait photography. Gordon Parks would later be the "frist African American to work as a staff photographer for Life magazine."**
Gordon Parks is also known for his book, "The Learning Tree" as well the movie of the same name, which he directed. *
