At Career Engagement, we know that students are much more likely to respond to your encouragement to use our services or attend events than to any promotion we do. The faculty and staff provide vital links among Career Engagement, students, alumni, and employers. With this in mind, Career Engagement continues to develop links to the faculty and staff so that our cooperative efforts are effective. We appreciate your support and offer the following services and resources for you.

Here are some possible topics, but we can customize to what you would like:

  • Resumes
  • Job search letters
  • Interviewing
  • How to attend career fairs
  • The “hidden job market”/networking
  • Researching organizations
  • Qualifications and skills needed in the workplace
  • Information about the services we provide to job seekers

Handshake is where employers post jobs and internships for Washburn students and alumni (pending Career Engagement approval). It’s a good place to learn about specific employers and employer recruiting events at Washburn. Local, nationwide, and global positions are always up to date in Handshake and are geared toward recent graduates and alumni. Internships and part-time jobs (off-campus) are available year round.

Handshake is also where students schedule appointments with WU Career Engagement Specialists for career counseling, resume / letter reviews, mock interviews, and other career development discussions.

Students use their Washburn credentials to login at Washburn.joinhandshake.com

Need a "SIC" Day? This program brings Career Engagement into the classroom when a faculty member is away for professional travel or personal issues. Career Engagement will speak to your class about career-related issues during your absence. Some examples of possible topics are above.

NOTE: We need advance notice to do SIC Days, usually at least a week.

We are available to speak to the more than 100 student organizations and clubs on campus. Presentations can be tailored to your group’s needs.
We have a plethora of employers who would like to visit your classes to speak. If you are interested in having one or more employer/recruiters visit, contact us.
Career Engagement visits employers in their workplaces. We discuss their labor force needs, qualifications and skills for employment and university/employer relations. Let us know If you would like to accompany us on an employer visit, if you would like us to accompany you, or if you would like to suggest a new employer.
Some employers schedule information sessions prior to the day of their on-campus interviews. These information sessions allow employers the opportunity to discuss their organization with students, faculty, and staff. To see upcoming events please go to Handshake. If you do not have a student account in Handshake but would like access to the recruiting schedule, events and more, give us a call – it’s very easy for you to set up.
Our services are available to staff and faculty as well as students. Feel free to schedule an appointment.
