A step-by-step guide to enrolling as a transfer student
Congratulations! You've earned admission to Washburn University as a transfer student. In the weeks leading up to your first day of class, there are several important steps you will need to take to ensure a successful transition. Below, you will find a comprehensive list of those steps.
Note: If for whatever reason you are viewing this page and have not yet applied to transfer, apply to Washburn to kickstart your admission process.
After you've been accepted as a transfer student
1. Set up your MyWashburn account
This is your portal to access your financial aid, housing information and much more as an Ichabod! To set up your account, follow the instructions provided to your personal email from Washburn Information Technology Services after you were admitted. If you don't see the email or have questions about signing up, contact Washburn ITS by email at support@washburn.edu, by phone at 785.670.3000 or find more information about MyWashburn. Additionally, once you have set up your account, you can begin searching through a variety of scholarship opportunities available to you through our scholarship-matching tool, ScholarshipUniverse.
2. Sign into your student email
Your student email is how you will receive official emails from your professors and the university. Check this account weekly as you may receive messages from Financial Aid or Residential Living in your inbox. To log in, visit outlook.washburn.edu and enter your login information. If you have trouble logging in, contact Washburn ITS by email at support@washburn.edu or by phone at 785.670.3000.
Choose if you're a fall or spring transfer student for the next steps
3. Register for orientation
Transfer students should attend a new student orientation. Registration begins around Feb. 1 for fall transfer students, with orientation taking place in the spring before your first semester at Washburn. See the complete listing of New Student Orientations and register.
4. Check in with Residential Living (optional)
If you are interested in living on campus, you will need to visit MyWashburn and select the Student Life tab on the left hand side, then select the Residential Living Housing Portal to either apply or file your exemption request. Registration for fall student housing opens the first Monday in December, and you have a variety of options from which to choose, including the Living Learning Center, Lincoln Hall, fraternity/sorority housing and the Washburn Village for upperclassmen. 5. Apply for financial aid
Starting Jan. 1, visit studentaid.gov and complete your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible to have the best chance at receiving financial aid, as well as other possible scholarships through Washburn. Be sure to enter Washburn University's school code (001949). If you have questions, contact our Financial Aid office at 785.670.1151 or by emailing financialaid@washburn.edu. If you haven't already, now would also be a good time to look through your available scholarship opportunities on Scholarship Universe.
6. Review and accept financial aid opportunities
Starting March 1, you can review and formally accept any scholarships, grants and/or loans you have been offered in the Financial Services menu of your MyWashburn account. If you have questions, contact our Financial Aid office at 785.670.1151 or by emailing financialaid@washburn.edu.
3. Register for orientation
Transfer students should attend a new student orientation. Registration begins around Sept. 1 for spring transfer students. You will have the option to attend your NSO in November or January. See the complete listing of New Student Orientations and register.

If you are transferring to Washburn in the spring semester, you will need to update the federal code on your FAFSA for the current school year to Washburn's school code (001949). If you have questions, contact our Financial Aid office at 785.670.1151 or by emailing financialaid@washburn.edu. If you haven't already, now would also be a good time to look through your available scholarship opportunities on Scholarship Universe.

At the end of the semester before you transfer
7. Submit your final college transcript(s)
Once your classes are completed and final grades have been submitted, you will need to have your official college transcripts sent to Washburn. To be considered official, transcripts must arrive at Washburn via the U.S. Postal Service from the institution that issues them. Washburn accepts official electronic transcripts at etranscripts@washburn.edu. You may also bring them to the Office of Admissions in Morgan Hall in a sealed envelope from the school. Washburn does not accept faxed transcripts as official. Mailed transcripts should be sent to: Washburn University, Office of Admissions, 1700 S.W. College Avenue, Topeka, KS 66621.
8. Check your student email daily
As your first semester at Washburn approaches, you'll want to check your student email daily to keep up with any important information! To access your student email go to outlook.washburn.edu. If you have trouble logging in, contact Washburn ITS by email at support@washburn.edu or by phone at 785.670.3000.
