Meet the Student Activities & Greek Life Staff

Jessica Neumann, Director

Jessica Neumann Barraclough, Director

Jessica has been a staff member since 2007.

She is responsible for leadership development of students and staff, event planning and management of student lead initiatives, direct advising of Washburn Student Government Association and Campus Activities Board, as well as support to fraternity and sorority life at Washburn University. She also serves as an educator on the importance of campus engagement, academic success, community development and recruitment and retention.

Jessica has the privilege of serving on many local and national boards and planning committees. Her involvement includes serving as the Ignite co-chair for educational programming in Fast Forward, current treasurer of the National Association of Campus Activities – Central Region, Women in Student Affairs National Leadership Team – Current Research Co-Chair, Washburn University United Way – Fundraising Campaign, and the Big Brothers Big Sister – Bowl for Kid’s Sake planning committee, as well as many other volunteer opportunities in the local community.

Jessica has received her Bachelors of Arts and Bachelors of Science from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and her Masters of Science from North Dakota State University.

 


Shannon Schwaebler, Assistant Director

Shannon has been a member of the staff since June 2015.

Her primary role is to advise the Campus Activities Board and Bod Squad. Within her first year at Washburn she has challenged the CAB and Bod Squad directors to think outside of the box and remain relevant with their programming. On top of advising these two organizations, Shannon works on various initiatives through the office, such as the Who's Who Awards, SOAR Awards, Greek Week, and the Greek Awards Reception. In addition, she manages the SAGL social media accounts which are used to put pertinent information out to campus. Starting in the fall, she will teach a section of WU101 for incoming students. Shannon serves on the National Association for Campus Activities planning committee as their Volunteer Development Coordinator and the National Association for Student Personnel Administration Region IV-W board as the New Professionals and Graduate Students Knowledge Community Chair. As chair of the regional NPGS KC her role is to connect and engage new professionals and graduate students in the region to different resources. As the Regional NACA Volunteer Development Coordinator she facilitates the regional volunteer process and work to engage volunteers at the regional conference.

Shannon received her Bachelors of Science from the University of Central Missouri and her Masters of Arts from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln.


 

Angela Valdivia, Office Assistant

Angela Valdivia, Office Assistant

Angela has been a staff member at Washburn University since 2000.

Angela serves as the primary contact and manages the registration logistics for all student organizations at Washburn University. She also supports student staff hiring, training and supervision. Angela also manages all event planning for Family Day, Homecoming, Washburn’s Who’s Who Reception, and the Student Organization Achievement & Recognition (SOAR) Awards Reception.

Angela serves as the current president of MANA de Topeka, the director of the LEAD program, and a Leadership of Greater Topeka 2010 Alumnae. She is also actively involved with many committees and programs at Washburn University.

Angela has received her Bachelors of Social Work from Washburn University.
