The Richey Scholars Program

Richey Scholarship

The Richey Scholarship is Washburn’s premier scholarship and is awarded to students who have achieved at the highest level academically and demonstrated the potential to contribute to the Washburn community. Renewable for four years, the $7,000 award can provide $28,000 in assistance towards your first undergraduate degree. To receive this scholarship, you must live on campus.

Application process

Who’s eligible: You must have a GPA of at least 3.9 and an ACT score of at least 28. Your official high school transcript must be on file by January 14, 2019.

How to apply: Application is by invitation only. For the 2019-2020 academic year, invitations will be mailed by Dec. 15, 2018. Submit your completed application packet to Kelli Wietharn at

  1. A cover letter stating why you’re the best candidate for the Richey Scholars Program
  2. A completed Richey Scholars Program Application
  3. A completed application essay
