Clinical Nurse Leader - Cardiology

The Kansas City VA Medical Center is recruiting for a highly qualified Registered Nurse - Clinical Nurse Leader in the Cardiology Department.

Duties
The Cardiology Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) applies the nursing process to systems or processes at the unit/team/work group level to improve care. The CNL assesses educational needs and competencies of all cardiology staff, develops, schedules, coordinates, and conducts educational programs for new and present cardiology personnel. The CNL provides education and aids staff in planning and developing educationalprograms to meet their own needs, as well as serving as a resource for complex patient care standards.


The Clinical Nurse Leader will provide specialized training to include, but is not limited to the following aspects of nursing care:

  • Monitoring patients and assisting with an cardiac procedures/diagnostic testing to include but not limited to:
  • Procedures done in the cardiac cath lab i.e. Left and Right Cardiac Catheterization, Implantation of cardiac pacing, debrillator and monitoring devices, Intraaortic balloon pump, coronary atherectomy equipment, temporary ventricular support devices (IMPELLA), intravascular ultrasound equipment.
  • Procedures performed in the cardiology holding department i.e. transesophageal echocardiogram, DCCV, insertion of subcutaneous cardiac monitoring devices.
  • Patient monitoring provided includes the use of hemodynamic monitoring equipment such as the central venous catheter, Pulmonar Artery Catheter, arterial line, non-invasive blood pressure monitoring, electrocardiogram and pulse oximetry.
  • Managing/monitoring/recovering patients under moderate sedation.
  • Procedure site management/assessment/monitoring.
  • Cardiology procedure specific drug administration.
  • Fluid volume resuscitation.
  • Ventilation support.
  • Implementation of hypothermia protocol.

The Clinical Nurse Leader reports directly to the Nurse Manager of Cardiology. This position does not include supervisory authority. The Nurse Manager provides general supervision.

Essential Functions:
This position potentially requires flexibility in schedule and assignments, as this is a 24/7 hospital and is an essential function of the position.  Some positions require rotation of tours or indefinite work on non-administrative tours as established by the immediate supervisor all dependent on direct patient care.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday - 7:30 am until 4:00 pm

Personal Care Assistant

I am looking for a personal care attendant while I’m attending Washburn University this fall. I have cerebral palsy and will need assistance with things like toileting, getting dressed, getting in and out of bed and bathing. I will have equipment with me. I am looking for three people, someone to help regularly during the week, someone to help on weekends and someone I can call if someone is unable to assist me at some point. I would need someone for approximately 30 minutes several times a day for about a maximum of 4 hours. I will pay $10 an hour.
