Musical Theatre Camp

Are you a college or high school student who wants to improve as a performer, dancer, singer and cast member? Apply by April 15 for the Washburn Musical Theatre Intensive Camp.

Participants must be available
9 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. daily May 28-31 and June 3-7, 2019
Camp occurs at Washburn University campus, 1700 SW College Ave. Topeka

Designed for high school and college students the intensive camp will follow a daily schedule of:

  • Morning
    • Tap dance (90 mintues daily)
    • Musical Theatre dance (90 minutes daily)
  • Lunch and shower break
  • Afternoon
    • Individual voice lessons (daily)
    • scene work (daily)
    • actor coaching (daily)

Each participant will perform on June 7:

  • 1 solo number
  • 1 short scene (duet or trio)
  • 2 large group dance numbers

Video audition information:

In addtion to the application form, you will be asked to submit a video audition of no more than 4:00 minutes that includes:

  • Two contrasting musical song selections with piano accompaniment (32 bars each)
  • One 30-60 second monologue of any style
  • The video can be recorded with a mobile phone and no editing is expected.

APPLICATIONS DUE: 8 a.m. Monday, April 15, 2019

Participants will be notified by the end of April.

Am I ready for this?

Yes. Passion is what matters most for this experience. It will be hard work and take a lot of energy and performers of all skill and expeirence levels are encouraged to apply.

No more than 16 applicants will be accepted to participate in the musical theatre camp.
  • The registration fee for the camp is $200.
  • Accepted participants will receive a link to pay the fee online.

If I'm accepted, what's next?

Remember, participants will be notified by April 22 if they are accepted. Camp begins May 28.

  • The cost of the camp is $200 and includes all training and coaching time and materials and a camp T-shirt.
  • Those accepted to participate will receive information by email, including a link to pay the registration fee online.

Each day, plan to bring the following with you:

  • Tap shoes
  • Jazz or ballet shoes
  • Dance clothing
  • Your own lunch and snacks
  • Water bottle
  • Rehersal clothes
  • Pencil with working eraser
  • Music and scripts (provided on the first day)
  • Shower and hygine items
  • Towel (showers available duirng lunch, 12-12:45 p.m.)
  • Combination lock for the locker you will be assigned


  • Money for the vending machine if you choose
  • Phone charger
  • Jacket or sweater
