The best thing to do to defend yourself against copyright infringement is to arm yourself with knowledge. Copyright law is very complex, but it boils down to one simple rule: the creator of a work has control over how that work is duplicated and distributed. Making unlawful copies (even a photocopy of a newspaper article) may be an infringement of copyright.
