The Memorial, dedicated November 11, 1988, was created as a result of the concerns of 10 students who were Vietnam veterans, and now retired faculty member Lee Dodson. During the conflict, Mr. Dodson corresponded with many of his students who were in Vietnam, offering support, and a link to "HOME". It is to the memory of those who did not return, and the efforts of those 10 students, and Mr. Lee Dodson , this tribute is dedicated.
The Vietnam Memorial is one of five military memorials on the university campus. Three plaques are located in the "Memorial Student Union". These plaques commemorate the casualties of WWI, WWII, and Korea. The fifth memorial plaque, dedicated by President Taft, is attached to a granite boulder placed on the north side of the main campus flag poles. This memorial is in honor of the Veterans of the Civil War.
As a result of the notice in the local newspaper, I have been asked to provide a link to the
Mobile Riverine Force Association.
