Winter Community Blood Drive Friday the 15th at Washburn Tech

Washburn Tech’s winter 2013 Community Blood Drive will be held tomorrow, Friday February 15th from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Building “A” on the Washburn Tech campus.  Students in the Washburn Tech Healthcare Technology Program have been conducting the drive since 2000.  Individuals 16 years and older with a minimum weight of 115 pounds are eligible to donate.  Those age 16 must bring a completed parental or guardian permission form which is available at the Washburn Tech administrative office.  All registered donors will receive a t-shirt from the Community Blood Center.

Leann DeLong, Donor Recruiter with the Community Blood Center, states “Donations were down thru the holidays and then illness hit last month which has left the Blood Center low on several blood types. The need is great for both types O, B and A negative blood.”

The Washburn Tech Healthcare Technology Program offers a 13 credit technical certificate that is designed to prepare graduates for entry level positions as Nurse Aides and Home Health Aides.  The program provides the foundation for more advanced health care careers such as Practical Nursing and Surgical Technology. The HealthCare Technology program introduces the student to basic patient care skills, medical terminology, basic medical math, and systems of the human body.  Hands-on experience is an integral part of the program.

Washburn Tech offers 25 technical programs, most of which are about 48 credits in length, in one of five divisions – Construction, Health Care, Transportation, Human Services, and Technology.  In addition, short-term continuing education and custom courses are offered.  Washburn Tech, which serves post-secondary and high school students, has the highest graduation rate of any public technical institution in Kansas, 87 percent.  To inquire about technical programs or future courses please contact Washburn Tech at 785.273.7140 or visit our website, www.washburntech.edu.
