Washburn Tech expands Advanced Systems Technology program

Washburn Tech will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Advanced Systems Technology training center at the Topeka Regional Airport and Business Center, formerly called Forbes, on Tuesday, November 13 at 9:30 a.m..  Washburn Tech has greatly expanded the Advanced Systems program in response to strong industry demand for graduates.  The Kansas Department of Labor projects there will be more than 5,000 Advanced Systems Technology job openings in Kansas between 2010 and 2020. 

Advanced Systems Technicians troubleshoot, repair and maintain manufacturing machinery and equipment to keep production lines and distribution systems in working order.  Technicians in the high demand Advanced Systems Technology field may earn an average of $20.00 per hour to start in Northeast Kansas and experienced technicians may earn much more. 

The expansion of the Advanced Systems Technology program is funded 100 percent through a

$19.6 million U.S. Department of Labor Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training grant (TRAC7) and with the support of the area business community.

Washburn Tech offers 25 technical programs, most of which are about 48 credits in length, in one of five divisions – Construction, Health Care, Transportation, Human Services, and Technology.  In addition, short-term continuing education and custom courses are offered.  Washburn Tech, which serves post-secondary students as well as high school students, has the highest graduation rate of any public technical institution in Kansas, 87 percent.  To inquire about technical programs or future courses please contact Washburn Tech at 785.273.7140 or visit our website
