High school voices join for annual concert at Washburn

The Civic Music Club will again gather many of Shawnee County's best secondary school voices for its annual High School Showcase Concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday,  Nov. 5 in White Concert Hall at Washburn University.

Admission is $5 for adults, with children younger than 12 admitted at no cost. Originally known as the Stacie Beavers Memorial Scholarship Concert, the program was established to commemorate club member Beavers, who was a music therapist for many years at the Colmery-O'Neil VA Medical Center before her death in 1978.

Opening the concert will be the Washburn Singers.  The high school groups performing will be the Cair Paravel Latin School Madrigals, Hayden High School Singers, Seaman High School Show Choir, Shawnee Heights High School Choraliers, Silver Lake High School Select Singers, Topeka High School Madrigals, Topeka West High School Singers and Washburn Rural High School's This Generation.  Also appearing this year will be the Deo Gloria Singers from the Cornerstone Family Homeschool.

Concert proceeds continue to fund the Stacie Beavers Memorial Fund to provide vocal music scholarships at Washburn, whose Washburn Singers will kick off the concert.
