Move in a breeze with MoveCrew

At Washburn University, moving into the Residence Halls takes three easy steps:

  1. Pull up the family car into the circle drive in front of the Living Learning Center on move in day.
  2. Let the MoveCrew – volunteers in yellow shirts - unload the vehicle and haul everything to your room.
  3. Grab something light and follow behind them with a smile.

For Abigail Mies, from Wichita, the whole process took less than 10 minutes.

“I thought we’d have to carry it ourselves,” she said, standing with her mother, Kathy. Both were smiling at the ease of it all. “It was really fast! That’s all of it.”

Mies, who will study art, said the whole process took away a lot of stress. Now she can focus on getting settled, meeting her floor mates and getting to know Washburn.

Hundreds of volunteers – students, faculty, staff and Topekans who want to help welcome the newest Ichabods – were on campus for Move Crew 2012. Even Washburn President Jerry Farley and Ichabod, the mascot, helped haul students’ belongings this morning. A cool breeze and some clouds helped make the process comfortable.

MoveCrew is on hand at all Washburn residence halls from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today, the first day students are allowed to into the halls for the semester.
