Washburn celebrates Founders Day

Washburn University will celebrate Founders Day on Monday, Feb. 6. There will be specials available on campus, free cupcakes, contests and Richard Norton Smith, a nationally recognized authority on the American presidency and a familiar face to viewers of C-SPAN, as well as “The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer,” will be the inaugural speaker of a new Lincoln Lecture Series with the presentation of “Lincoln and Washburn University: Toward a New America.” Details below:

Lincoln Lecture Series - featuring Richard Norton Smith

7 p.m. in Washburn Room, Memorial Union

Richard Norton Smith, a nationally recognized authority on the American presidency and a familiar face to viewers of C-SPAN, as well as “The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer,” will present “Lincoln and Washburn University: Toward a New American.” The lecture is free and open to the public.

The Lincoln Lecture Series is one of several special events instituted in anticipation of Washburn University’s sesquicentennial celebration in 2015.

“Like” Washburn 150

Visit Facebook and “Like” the Washburn 150 page. One lucky person, who likes the Washburn 150 page by Friday, Feb. 10, will receive a 150th prize pack. The winner will be notified on Monday, Feb. 13.

Visit Washburn’s Sesquicentennial webpage, Washburn.edu/150, or Facebook page and watch the video, then take the quiz. Quizzes are also available in the university relations office, room 128, Morgan Hall. Entries must be received by Friday, Feb. 10. The winners will be notified on Monday, Feb. 13.

What will you win? Three entries, with the correct answers, will be drawn at random and will receive a $50 Bookstore gift certificate.
