Washburn Institute of Technology seeks applications for a Culinary Arts technical instructor at the Washburn Institute of Technology for the 2014-2015 school year. The successful candidate will be required to submit to a background check prior to hire. This position is a full-time position with benefits. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Technical Instructors are expected to provide positive role models for students. Instruction shall be based on current state-of-the-art practices in the field. The Culinary Arts program provides luncheon daily to the campus as part of the students’ hands-on experience, some evening and weekend events may also be catered by the students.

  • Participate in the development, organization, implementation and evaluation of curriculum.
  • Participate in developing standards for student admission, progression and program completion.
  • Develop course objectives and content and laboratory experiences and implement the course of study in cooperation with other faculty.
  • Teach both theoretical and practical learning experiences.
  • Select and maintain appropriate materials, audiovisuals and equipment to enhance student education.
  • Direct, guide and evaluate student performance in the clinical and laboratory setting.
  • Maintain a positive learning environment.
  • Maintain student records pertaining to the program.
  • Evaluate each course taught and performance in teaching.
  • Assist in selection, recruitment, retention, evaluation, advising and counseling of program students.
  • Submit recommendations related to budget and purchases.
  • Actively participate in professional organizations and advisory committees.  Attend seminars, conferences and workshops.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships and constructive interaction with other technical instructors, both in the program and across the institution, and personnel of the school, cooperating agencies and community groups.
  • Serve as a member of committees as assigned.
  • Perform all other functions necessary for the proper operation of assigned courses.
  • Ability to move and maneuver equipment and materials weighing as much as 50 pounds.

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED:  Two years or more of experience working in a full service, from scratch kitchen as a lead or sous chef. High school diploma. ServSafe certified or able to obtain certification within 6 months of employment. Experience using computer word processing and spreadsheet software.

PREFERRED:  Bachelor’s Degree in food science, dietetics, or related field, or is a graduate from an accredited Culinary Program. Teaching experience at the post-secondary level.
