Vacancy - Evening Adjunct Technical Instructor Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)

Washburn Institute of Technology seeks applications for an Adjunct Technical Instructor in the Emergency Medical Technician program for the 2014-2015 school year. The successful candidate will be required to submit to a background check prior to hire. This position is a part-time evening position. 

Technical Instructors are expected to provide positive role models for students. Instruction shall be based on current state-of-the-art practices in the field. An EMT Technical Instructor will be responsible for all instruction of students where applicable in accordance with established policies, regulations and procedures of Washburn Institute of Technology’s requirements.

  • Prepare and provide all lecture, laboratory and clinical instruction according to the required curriculum.
  • Follow current course outlines, objectives, and evaluation mechanisms for the program and/or develop such when indicated by Associate Dean for Instruction.
  • Maintain a lesson plan of daily instructional events.
  • Monitor student attendance and retention and document as required by the administration.
  • Grading assignments, returning graded assignments to students, and assigning final grades for all students in a timely manner.
  • Provide educational assistance to students during regularly scheduled times (i.e., office hours) or by appointment
  • Advise students as it relates to school policies.
  • Submit in writing current textbook, supply, and equipment needs to the Associate Dean for Instruction.
  • Monitor all equipment and supply inventory in locked facilities.
  • Maintain professional appearance.
  • Communicate with Associate Dean for Instruction on all issues related to students.
  • Maintain professional expertise (faculty development) to meet accreditation standards by attending educational seminars in professional field, reading current literature, attending online courses, etc.
  • Ability to move and maneuver equipment and materials weighing as much as 50 pounds
  • Perform other duties as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Candidate must have served as a physician, nurse or an attendant during the last 12 months, after successfully applying, completing and passing examination in instructing and coordinating attendant training programs approved by the Kansas Board of Emergency Medical Services (KSBEMS). All fees prescribed by KSBEMS must be paid in order to be considered for the position.

PREFFERED QUALIFICATION: Previous instructor experience.
