Human Resources seeks candidates who are strong leaders in statistical analysis for the Director, Strategic Analysis and Reporting position in the Strategic Analysis and Reporting Department. This position reports to the Special Assistant to the President and holds responsibility for leading and directing the University’s activities in institutional research and data management.
The Director of Strategic Analysis and Reporting (SAR) advocates and supports the culture of data-informed decision making at Washburn University through performance of the following duties.
Lead data management activities at Washburn University to ensure that University administrators have access to reliable and relevant data for use in their strategic and operational activities.
Collaborate with Information Technology Services to enhance the data warehouse and to develop readily available reports using various reporting tools to build capacity for data analysis and reporting across the University.
Coordinate training of University staff in the use of data reporting tools and the appropriate reporting of data.
Strategic Analysis and Reporting
Design, develop, produce and interpret internal management reports that incorporate statistical techniques and analytics on topics such as University enrollment, student retention, degrees conferred, faculty salaries, and program review for use by administrators and managers in activities such as strategic planning, program assessment and policy development. Organize and present research-based information in narrative, graphical and oral reports according to end user needs.
Consult with University staff to determine information needs, identify problems, and offer solutions. Direct SAR staff in generating data extracts and in preparing tables and reports for the end user.
Provide leadership in the development, analysis, interpretation and reporting of data for the purposes of institutional research, planning, assessment, program review, accreditation and compliance.
Compile appropriate data and deliver reports mandated by government and accrediting agencies such as the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), Kansas Board of Regents (KBOR), the federal government, NCAA and others for timely University compliance reporting.
Review all reports prior to delivery to ensure consistency and accuracy.
Direct and supervise the unit’s administrative and support staff: Assign tasks, initiate recruitment to fill vacancies, monitor and assess performance and provide feedback to help employees become more proficient in performing assigned tasks. Encourage staff to participate in training and professional organizations to support and facilitate their professional development.
Participate in professional organizations such as the Association for Institutional Research and other relevant national and regional professional organizations to remain apprised of current issues and concerns in the field.
Lead or serve on University and/or external committees as assigned.
Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED: Master’s degree and 5 years of experience in data collection and reporting, or bachelor’s degree and 8 years of experience in data collection and reporting. Data collection and reporting experience in higher education. Demonstrated ability to apply complex statistical and research methods in data analysis, and provide focused informational reports using relational databases; to manage a department and supervise staff effectively; to manage multiple projects concurrently; to work both independently and collaboratively with multiple constituencies; to communicate clearly verbally and in writing; to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion. Well-developed interpersonal and organizational skills. Willingness to respond effectively to ad hoc requests.
PREFERRED: Master’s degree in statistics, information analysis, social science or a closely related field. 3 years of experience in data collection and reporting in higher education. Experience using Banner and Argos software.
