iAlert information for Students

What is the Washburn iAlert mass notification system?

The iAlert system will serve as Washburn University’s  primary means of communication during an campus emergency or special situation.  iAlert technology enables Washburn to send voice, e-mail and text messages to students, faculty, staff and other contacts such as parents and spouses, to telephone numbers you choose. Whenever a message is broadcast the message is always sent to all Washburn email addresses. You can also choose to receive these messages via telephone.  To review the telephone numbers, you have selected to receive voice and text messages at, please go to the following site  iAlert Preferences Portal and login using your MyWashburn username and password.  In the event of a life threatening emergency both a voice message and a text message will be sent to cell phone numbers. A voice mail message will be left if there is no answer. If the number is entered as a landline phone you will only receive a voice message. No text messages are sent to landline phones. In the event  all classes are cancelled or the University is closed due to inclement weather, a text message will be sent to all cellular phone numbers. Voice messages are not sent for closing announcements.  An e-mail will be automatically sent to your Washburn e-mail account.

Why do I need to register for this service?
