Homecoming is coming...

Homecoming 2014 is scheduled for Oct. 12-18, 2014. Details about the theme, activities and events will be announced in the coming months.

Homecoming 2013 occurred Oct. 21-26. The finale was a 44-35 football victory over Lindenwood University. At halftime, Derek Fritz and Bonnie McKee were crowned Homecoming 2013 King and Queen. The Homecoming 2013 schedule of events and theme information is included below.

Sunday, Oct. 20

Bods on the Avenue

  • Bods on the Avenue store-front decorating on Kansas Avenue finishes today.
  • Coordinate with your community business partner to arrange window decorating times.
  • Registration for this event was due Oct. 11.

Monday, Oct. 21

Top Hats

  • Completed top hats are due at noon to the Office of Student Activities and Greek Life.
  • Judging begins at 5 p.m. today in the Memorial Union.
  • Registration for this event was due Oct. 11.

The Top Hat Auction, which benefits United Way of Greater Topeka, is a highlight of homecoming. Hats will be on display from 7-10 p.m. today and throughout the week. Vote for your favorite by putting change in its jar, or bid on the hat. A bid of $50 is the "buy it now" price and will allow you to keep the hat after Superbod Homecoming concludes.

Homecoming Ball

  • The ball, from 7-10 p.m. in the Washburn Room, main level, Memorial Union, is for current Washburn students.

Royalty Voting

  • Homecoming royalty voting begins at 8:30 p.m. at my.washburn.edu.
  • Voting is open to students only.

Late Night Breakfast

  • Offered from 9-10:30 p.m. in Stauffer Commons, the menu includes a cheese omelet and biscuits and gravy for $6.

Office Decorations

Ichabod Race

  • Meet in the lower level of the Memorial Union at 5:30 p.m. to be ready to start the race at 6 p.m.
  • The Ichabod Race is composed of several teams of three to five members. (Registration for this event was due Oct. 11.)
  • Each team must use provided clues to guide them to specific locations around campus.
  • Once there, at least two team members must pose while the third takes a picture as proof of arrival.

Wednesday, Oct. 23

  • From 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. enjoy the final Scorch of the semester.

Chapter and Residence Hall Decorations

  • Chapter house decorations must be completed and ready for judging by 4 p.m.
  • Judging begins at 4 p.m.
  • Registration for this event was due Oct. 11.

Ichabod Soccer

  • Ichabod soccer hosts Emporia State University at Yager Stadium at Moore Bowl at 6 p.m.
  • Admission is free for everyone.

Open Mic Night

  • All participants must be at Mabee Library ready to perform at 6:45 p.m.
  • Acts may include only one or two people and each will have six minutes.
  • Registration for this event was due Oct. 11.

Thursday, Oct. 24

Ichabod Shop

  • The Ichabod Shop's annual Homecoming Sale is underway from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Yell Like Hell

  • Yell Like Hell begins at 7 p.m. at Lee Arena.
  • Groups will be judged in one of three categories
    • University organization
    • Fraternity or Sorority
    • Athletic Teams
  • Submit a roster of all group participants to the Office of Student Activities and Greek Life by noon today. All participants must be current Washburn students.
  • Registration for this event was due Oct. 11
  • Washburn Cheer, Dancing Blues and Marching Blues will perform.
  • Admission is free for spectators.

  • In celebration of its 30th anniversary, the School of Applied Studies is having an open house.
  • Visit Benton Hall and Petro Allied Health Center from 2-4 p.m. for a chance to win an iPad mini.

  • Student Activities and Greek Life recognizes student organization advisors from 4-5 p.m. at the Bradbury Thompson Alumni Center.

Washburn After Hours

  • Mix and mingle from 5-7 p.m. at Bradbury Thompson Alumni Center.
  • This will be the last chance to bid on top hats.
  • Cakes from the WU Chef competition also will be on display.

Parade

  • Line-up begins at 8:30 a.m. in the Washburn Village parking lot.
  • Consult your homecoming packet for specific information and WSGA reimbursement details.
  • The Washburn Student Government Association will have a Welcome Tent set up at the corner of 21st Street and Jewell Ave. Stop by for hot chocolate, coffee, water and donuts. Goodies for kids, too.
  • The parade begins at 10 a.m.

Tailgating

  • The Washburn Alumni Association tailgate begins at 11 a.m.
    • Free for members and anyone 12 and younger
    • $5 for non-members
  • The Leadership Institute hosts a tailgate from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
    • Free for LI students and alumni.

Ichabod Football

  • Watch your Ichabods take on Lindenwood University at 1 p.m. at Yager Stadium at Moore Bowl.
  • Students, your iCard is your ticket.
  • Others can purchase tickets at the gate or online.
  • Homecoming royalty will be crowned at halftime.

Coloring Contest Winners

Congratulations to our winners!

The winners of the Washburn University Homecoming Coloring Contest let their superpowers of imagination shine through by creating a one-of-a-kind Superbod Homecoming logo. The winners will receive a $20 gift certificate to the Ichabod Shop.  Electronic copies of the winning entries are available by request.The 2013 Homecoming Coloring Contest winners are:
