Promoting Active Leadership Students (PALS) is a multi-faceted mentoring program within the Leadership Institute.
Student to Student Mentoring
Returning upperclassmen is paired with an incoming student to help ease the transition into Washburn University and the Leadership Institute. Students are paired in the summer months so that new students have the opportunity to connect with a current student before their first class begins, ensuring a familiar face once he or she gets to campus. Other elements of the student-to-student mentoring program include informal meetings and scheduled activities at Leadership Institute banquets and events.
Students who choose to participate in this program are matched with leaders in the greater Topeka community. Selected students can take advantage of this community connection by scheduling formal shadowing or informal discussions that fit within their schedule. Students are matched based on certain criteria, including major, career field, and hobbies or interests.
