1st Battalion, 108th Aviation Regiment at Forbes Field

The 1st Battalion, 108th Aviation Regiment is located at Forbes Field in Topeka, Kansas.  It was activated on September 1, 1986, from all the army aviation units in the Kansas Army National Guard.  The unit is currently equipped with the UH-60A Black Hawk helicopter made by Sikorsky Aircraft. 

The mission of the 1st Battalion, 108th Aviation Regiment is to, at M-Day, deploy to wartime theater of operations; occupy assigned tactical assembly areas; prepare for and conduct combat operations as an integrated member of an air assault combined arms team; provide the full range of CS and CSS functions by providing tactical mobility of troops, supplies and equipment within the combat zone; and be prepared to conduct stability and support in support of both federal and state agencies.

This Leadership Lab experience for students will consist of the following activities:

  • Discussion with battalion Captain about the Black Hawk unit at Forbes Field as well as leadership model of this particular Army unit and the military in general
  • Tour of Forbes Field facilities
  • Flight mission training debrief session with leadership team and all Black Hawk units
  • Flight mission training debrief session with one specific Black Hawk unit
  • Observation of the flight mission preparation and launch from the aviation tarmac
  • Debrief and Q & A session with member of the Regimen
