A Piece of My Heart

I left a piece of my heart at the top of a mountain in my city in France. The day I remember most, started out with beautiful weather, but as the day wore on so did the weather, the clouds came in and covered the sky. However my two best friends and I hiked on. The challenge was to hike to the top of the Puy de Dôme from the city. This trip involved my heart because it was such a challenge for me once I accomplished it I felt like I could conquer the world. Those moments that we passed together slipping and sliding in the mist and shivering from the cold all the while laughing together and enjoying each other’s presence forever remain with me. We managed to do the whole hike in eights. That is a day I will never forget.

More than Just Food

This culture that I briefly visited became more than just another culture if became a part of me, who I was, how I define myself and what I learned. I didn’t just live in another culture, I breathed it, I ate it, and I learned it. When reflecting on my time there I often think about how much it changed me but I know that those friendships I made changed a small part of France. I know that wherever you go and whoever you meet are now a part of you. We are human beings and we change and learn and parts of us are scattered throughout. This is a restaurant that we celebrated a friend’s birthday. This photo brings to life the French culture of spending three hours at the same restaurant, eating crepes and drinking water from wine glasses: This is but a moment frozen in time.

Sacred Heart (The Church)

I visited many cathedrals in France but this seemingly small one was my favorite. It is called le Sacre Coeur which means sacred heart. The day was rainy and gray yet my heart was alight with color. My best friend stood beside me and 500 steps lay ahead of me. I had the sense walking through this hallowed place that the world is rich with history. I even liked how once we got outside the cathedral we could see the Eiffel Tour far off in the distance shrouded by gray and fog, a scene reminding me of a movie. I think I had this feeling , that I was living in a dream, sometimes I think it was a dream but then I see the results of the friendships I had and the experiences that remain with me, like this photo.

Summary

This experience changed me there were many events and things that I did. I made friends all over the world. I met other people doing the same program and having the same struggles as me. I loved the city because it was really easy to get around on your own. It is in the center of France so I had an experience of real life French and seeing areas that most tourists never get to. I did travel and see other parts of France but my favorite was the hikes around Clermont-Ferrand. The nature is beautiful there; anytime there was nice weather me and my friends went and spent time outside hiking or sitting in a park. I also really enjoyed the food and the people. I made some lifelong friends who I hope I can visit in the near future. This is an experience I do not regret and would do it again in a heartbeat.
