Responding to Rural Crime Victimization: An Overview of Local, State and National Initiatives

Victim service program from around the country were surveyed and focus groups were held to examine services and policies that exist for crime victims in rural areas. The research identified the challenges or barriers in providing services as well as some of the promising practices that that exist. The challenges can be summarized into four main areas: isolation, lack of resources, lack of privacy and confidentiality, and literacy and vocational issues.
