Victim services as an occupation can be considered an emerging profession. While there have been various discussions and initiatives regarding the professionalization of victim services, it is a concept that has not been well-defined or considered in a comprehensive manner. The goal of the program is to enhance awareness and understanding by victim service practitioners and policy-makers of the issues that pertain to professionalization and to identify strategies for the evolution of the victim services occupation to a profession. This one day program consists of presentation, facilitated group discussion, small group activities, and individual exercises in the development of a comprehensive plan. Much of the program is based on research supported by the JCVVS in the study of victim services professionalization.
