The Washburn University Wind Ensemble enjoys a reputation for excellence. By audition, the wind ensemble has twice represented the State of Kansas at the College Band Directors National Association Southwestern Conference and has appeared at the KMEA Music Educators Convention in each year of eligibility since 1986. Under the direction of Dr. Michael Mapp, Director of Bands, members of the Wind Ensemble take great pride in the high level of musicianship which has become a hallmark of this ensemble.
The Wind Ensemble not only focuses on time-honored masterworks but has also earned a reputation throughout the Midwest for innovative programming and the presentation of new literature for the wind band medium. The Wind Ensemble has given premieres of works by composers Libby Larsen, Timothy Mahr, Frank Mantooth, and Darren Jenkins. Membership is by competitive audition.

Large Ensemble auditions will take place on Sunday, August 21, 2016, in Garvey, Room 220. Winds, Brass, and Percussion students will not need to sign up for a time, but will show up at the assigned BEGINNING TIME for each instrument. The schedule is as follows:
