Theresa Benson

Currently, I am the Program Coordinator of the Counseling Center Paraprofessional (CCP) Program at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), where I teach three service learning courses related to the CCP Program and supervise undergraduate students working as CCPs for the counseling center.  In addition, I facilitate intergroup dialogues for the Program on Intergroup Relations at UIUC. I have facilitated dialogues on gender, race, and religious diversity.  Also, I teach online courses for the department of Health Services at Washburn University.  As an instructor, I take an experiential learning approach with a holistic emphasis focusing on the development and integration of the cognitive, emotional, social, and spiritual aspects of the students.  Prior to my work at the University of Illinois, I served as the Executive Director of COMPASS Rape Crisis Center, a rape crisis center providing services to two counties in Ohio.  I have a bachelor of arts in communications with a business minor from Kent State University, a masters of art degree in holistic health education from JFK University, and a doctoral degree in counseling psychology from The University of Akron.  Learn more about the counseling center paraprofessional program at http://www.counselingcenter.illinois.edu/?page_id=28
