Washburn University, which historically prizes access to postsecondary education, continues to develop pathways that meets students where they are in their individual preparation. The Ichabod Ignite Program is a collaborative effort of the Center for Student Success, Mabee Library, Academic Affairs, the Department of English, Student Life, and Enrollment Management at Washburn University and area high schools.
The Ichabod Ignite Program through intentional design provides an opportunity for first-time direct-from-high-school students, who do not meet Washburn University’s regular or exception undergraduate admissions criteria, to pursue a postsecondary education.
The program consists of coursework, activities and services across a student’s first two years of study at Washburn University that are designed to put him/her on the path to college success. Instead of rejecting students, the Ignite Program allows them to enroll in 4 carefully chosen courses, 11-credit hours that all count toward graduation, designed to develop their academic ability and success behaviors.
