Talk Like a Pirate Day celebration at Washburn, Sept. 19

Ahoy mateys, celebrate International Talk Like a Pirate Day at Washburn University’s Memorial Union’s Scorch on the Porch event from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19 on the north Memorial Union lawn, Washburn campus. The event is open to the public.

Dress like a scurvy pirate and receive a prize. Enjoy live entertainment by The Stolen Winnebagos, a pair of pirate musicians from Kansas City. A $5 meal deal will be offered, which includes jerk chicken quarters with mango salsa, beans and rice, Jamaican spiced rum cake and fruited water and tea. Also, the Ichabod Shop will have a sidewalk sale.

In case of inclement weather, this event will be moved inside Memorial Union. The Memorial Union office is sponsoring the event.
