Classified Position Openings

All University employees who are paid on an hourly basis are considered "Classified." The application procedures for these positions require that you submit a completed Washburn University Application for Employment to the Human Resources Department. Applications are kept on file for 90 days from the date of receipt.  Applicants can request that their Application be copied and submitted for other classified recruitments within that 90 day period by contacting Human Resources.  New vacancies are advertised in the Sunday edition of the Topeka Capital-Journal as well as numerous placement offices and employment organizations.

High school diploma or GED.  Six months of retail experience.  Knowledge of buying principles.  Demonstrated exceptional customer service skills, computer skills and ability to move and/or maneuver materials and packages weighing as much as 40 pounds.  Attention to detail, negotiation skills, persistence/follow up, communication skills, strong aesthetic sense and merchandising ability.

Administrative Specialist

School of Law

High school diploma or GED.  3 years of experience providing administrative support, or completion of a course of study at the post-secondary level in Office Management/Support and two years of experience providing administrative support, or college degree and 12 months of experience providing administrative support.  Excellent customer service skills, communication and project management skills.  Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to make decisions using sound judgment.  Ability to handle multiple projects on an ongoing basis.  Experience with Word, Excel, and social media.  Good attendance record.

Unit Leader, Child Care

High school diploma or GED.  Must qualify as a lead teacher according to KDHE regulations by fulfilling one of the following:
--Completion of 5 sessions of observation for not less than 2 1/2 consecutive hours per observation in licensed preschools or child care centers; and 1 year of teaching experience in licensed centers or preschools, or 1 year of supervised practicum in licensed centers or preschools; or
--Completion of 7 semester hours of academic credit or equivalent training in child development or early childhood education; and 3 months of teaching experience in licensed centers or preschools, or 1 year of supervised practicum in licensed centers or preschools; or
--A child development associate credential (CDA). 

Ability to plan and prepare meals for large groups according to the Child and Adult Care Food Program.

High school diploma or GED.  Training in Building Maintenance.  Stable/continuous work history.  4 years of experience in Building Trades.  Experience in HVAC and steam boiler operations.  Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, to move and/or maneuver equipment and materials weighing as much as 50 pounds, to work from a ladder, to respond to emergency service calls outside regularly scheduled work hours, and to work various shifts as assigned.  Valid Kansas driver’s license with acceptable driving record under University standards.
