The college experience at Washburn University begins with New Student Orientation (NSO). During your first year at Washburn, you will meet with many new challenges and opportunities, so we encourage you to register for a one-day orientation session. New Student Orientation has been designed to assist new students in developing an understanding about the transition students will make to college and to enable success at Washburn.

The Student Services Office helps veterans and their dependents in applying for Veterans Administration educational assistance programs and submitting enrollment certifications for VA educational benefits while currently attending the University. “What’s the next step?” you ask. Veterans Services is the ticket for detailed information on the Montgomery GI Bill, Post-9/11 GI Bill, or other military educational assistance programs in place at Washburn.
Students are invited to visit with Student Services staff on any non-traditional related questions or concerns. Interested in starting a non-traditional student organization? Simply email us for an appointment.
Questions about services and resources? Stop by Mabee Library, Room 204 on Friday, September 16, 2016, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM and talk with a respresentative from the VA Medical Center.
Questions about VA educational benefits and/or programs? Curious about resumes and tips and job searching? Stop by Mabee Library, Room 206 B, on Tuesday, May 3rd, from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM and talk to a KS National Guard Educational Services Officer or a Westar Energy Veteran Recruiter. While you are there grab a free slice of pizza and mingle with other student veterans!
Learn more about PTSD: The VA Medical Center is hosting a presentation on the treatment and diagnosis of PTSD on Tuesday, April 12th from 2:00 PM to 3:00PM in Mabee Library, Room 206 B.
A KS National Guard Educational Services Officer will be available in Mabee Library, Room 206 A on Tuesday, March 29th from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM to answer any questions you may have regarding benefits, programs, etc.
Are you a veteran and looking for employment? Join us at the Veterans Job Club in Mabee Library, Room 206A on March 10th from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM.
A Chili Cook-Off, sponsored by the Washburn Student Veterans Organization, is scheduled on February 4, 2016 from Noon to 2:00pm in Mabee Library. Come support the veterans organization via a donation to sample and vote for your favorite chili.
