'Not for ourselves alone'

When longtime professor and dean of women Charlotte Mendell Leavitt recommended non nobis solum as Washburn’s motto more than a century ago, she envisioned a school that had a tremendous impact on its students, alumni and the community.

As the university celebrates the countdown to our sesquicentennial in 2015, we continue to take the motto, translated as “not for ourselves alone,” to heart.

Washburn continues to give back to alumni and friends, from hosting signature events such as the Bow Tie Ball, to our service to the community, to numerous other activities.

Your connection

Serving more than 3,000 members, the Washburn Alumni Association nurtures and supports the relationship between alumni and the university.

We keep you informed on university activities and bring the alumni together to promote fellowship and serve your alma mater.

In addition to hosting a number of events for alumni and friends, the Alumni Association connects you with the university through our mailings, magazine, website and social media.

We also offer traveling opportunities several times a year, including trips to countries across the globe.

Giving back to Washburn

You can help Washburn in a number of ways, including:

• Alumni Fun Run: The Washburn Alumni Association’s annual 5K run and two-mile walk funds our scholarships, which contribute thousands of dollars to dozens of legacy students every year.
• Give to Washburn: The Washburn University Foundation provides numerous opportunities for alumni and friends to support whichever program they choose.
• LinC: Learning in the Community is one of the signature service organizations at Washburn. LinC works with organizations and agencies throughout the community and state and is quick to lend support in times of need such as the Harveyville, Reading and Joplin tornadoes.
