- Federal Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized loans will remain in the offered status unless you choose to accept/decline the award.
- If you accept your loan(s), you may need to complete Entrance Loan Counseling and a Master Promissory Note (MPN). To complete these, please visit the Federal Student Aid website.
Scholarships and grants
- The Federal Pell Grant and SEOG (Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant) are awarded based on full-time enrollment (12 hours or more). If you enroll less than full-time your awards will be prorated.
- KCG (Kansas Comprehensive Grant) requires you to be enrolled full-time (12 hours or more).
- Scholarships generally require you to be enrolled full-time (12 hours or more for undergraduates, 9 hours or more for graduate/law). If you are receiving a departmental scholarship, please contact that department regarding enrollment requirements.
Federal Work Study
Federal work study is a student financial aid program for eligible undergraduate students with unmet financial need. With federal work study, students can get a job on campus and earn money through working. Paychecks can be used for educational, living, and/or other expenses. Funds are not directly applied to tuition, fees, or remaining balances.
More information on Federal Work Study and positions available please visit our student employment page.
Federal loans
Please visit the Federal Student Aid website to:
- View current interest rates and fees
- Difference between Subsidized and Unsubsidized loans.
- Information on Parent Plus or Graduate Plus loans and how to apply.
- View your loans and/or grants received on the dashboard.
More information about loans can be found on our student and parent loan page.
Private loan option
If you do not qualify for federal financial aid, or it is not enough to cover your educational expenses, you may consider applying for a private loan.
Private loans are based on credit through a private lender outside of the federal government or Washburn University. Since private loans are not guaranteed by the federal government, higher interest rates and fees may apply.
The terms and conditions of federal loans may be more favorable than the provisions of private educational loans.
For this reason, Washburn University highly encourages you to exhaust all federal financial aid options before applying for a private loan. You can apply for federal financial aid by filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
More information about loans can be found on our student and parent loan page.
Payment plan option
Please contact the Business Office regarding payment plan options. Phone 785.670.1156 or business-office@washburn.edu.
The Business Office will apply financial aid to tuition, fees, and campus housing charges first. Current tuition and fees
Requirements and other important information about your aid offer

If you do not plan to enroll full-time, you must notify the Financial Aid Office at financialaid@washburn.edu to have your aid updated to part-time enrollment. Failure to do so may prevent financial aid disbursement or require adjustments after disbursement of aid.
- Financial aid offer is based on the fall and/or spring semesters. Summer financial aid is based on remaining annual federal aid eligibility.
- Aid offers are subject to change at any time as a result of guidance from the donor, State of Kansas, and/or the U.S. Department of Education.
