Sigma Alpha Iota (SAI) is open to female music majors and non-music majors who are interested in music. SAI meets monthly, sponsors several musical events for children in the community, and assists the department with service activities. Phi Mu Alpha
The Washburn University Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Kappa Rho Chapter is a member of the world's oldest and largest secret national fraternal society in music. Sinfonia was born on October 6, 1898, and for over a century, Sinfonians in nearly every field of study and professional endeavor have transformed music in America. The opportunity of becoming a Sinfonian is offered to as many men as possible who, through a love for music, can assist in the fulfillment of the Fraternity's object and ideals either by adopting music as a profession, or by working to advance the cause of music in America. Collegiate National Association for Music Education (NAfME)
Collegiate NAfME is open to all music education majors. Membership includes a subscription to The Music Educator's Journal, Teaching Music, and The KMEA Music Review, and entitles members to free music and literature. It has monthly meetings featuring university and community speakers, attends the KMEA convention, and provides other services to the music department. The Washburn University Flute Association (WUFA)
The Washburn University Flute Association is dedicated to encouraging and supporting music and flute related activities. Established in 2005 and recognized by the Washburn Office of Student Activities and Greek Life, the Association has developed annual activities that include middle school outreach, youth masterclasses, Topeka Youth Flute Choir mentorship, and April Flute's Day. The Washburn Association of Percussionists - (WAP)
The Washburn Association of Percussionists (WAP) is open to any music major or non-music major who has a passion for percussion. Past activities have included raising money to attend the Percussive Arts Society International Convention, and securing funding for various guest artists in percussion. Washburn University Clarinet Association (WUCA)
The Washburn University Clarinet Association is an organization promoting clarinet related events. Established in 2012 and recognized by the Washburn Office of Student Activities and Greek Life, the association has developed annual activities that include: community outreach, local school outreach, and chamber performances through the Clarinet Ensemble. Washburn University Jazz Coalition
The Washburn University Jazz Coalition is open to any music major or non-music major who is participating in the jazz program. The association has developed annual activities that include: community outreach, local school outreach, community and university performances, and support for WU Coleman Hawkins Jazz Festival. Washburn Piano and Organ Society
Washburn Piano and Organ Society (WPOS) is a student organization that is dedicated to encouraging and supporting music and keyboard instrument related activities. Membership in the organization is open to any music major or non-music major currently enrolled at Washburn University with an avid interest in piano and/or organ. WPOS has assisted or sponsored several keyboard events including Washburn Piano Day, PianoFest, field trips to concerts, and invitations for guest artists. WPOS members have the opportunity to participate in extra-curricular recitals, and past members have served leadership and mentorship roles in Washburn Summer Keyboard Academy. Lastly, WPOS is connected with the Washburn KMTA (Kansas Music Teachers Association) Collegiate Chapter, and music majors have the option of joining the KMTA Collegiate Chapter for added benefits such as online teachers’ resources, free subscription to the American Music Teacher magazine, recital/contest opportunities for private studios, music teacher conference trips, and more.
