Why study Math Education at Washburn?

You can earn a bachelor of arts, a bachelor of science, or a bachelor of education in preparation for teaching exams that will qualify you to teach grades 6-12 in Kansas. Because Washburn University offers one of the strongest mathematics education programs in the state, our graduates find rewarding employment at many grade-levels and schools.Degree options
The new Bachelor of Education degree option will allow you to complete the degree in four years without summer school courses. The BA and BS options leave the door open for graduate study in mathematics or other mathematics-related occupations. Your advisor will help you determine which degree is right for you. The licensure only program is your best option only if you already have a bachelor’s degree in a math-related field.
Each program will prepare you as a mathematician. You'll take courses in calculus, algebra, geometry, discrete math, and statistics. Each degree also includes courses in the Education Department to prepare you for the classroom. In your final semester you’ll be for ready for the licensure exams necessary to teach mathematics in grades 6-12 in Kansas.
