Choosing TA as your major requires 27-credit hours, while choosing it as a minor requires fifteen-credit hours. All students, majoring in the TA program, may choose one of four minors including Communication Studies, Health Services Administration, Public Administration or Business. Additional minors are available after consultation with the program coordinator.
Requirements for Major: 27 credit hours in the department including:

Communication Studies
Communication Studies Minor
With a communication minor you could work in human resources management, advertising, marketing, public relations/political campaign management, events management, speech writing, media production or journalism.

Health Services Administration
Health Services Administration Minor
As a Health Services minor, you could work in many different fields, including Clinic or Medical group practice, the Hospital/Health system, Home health/Hospice services, Residential/Long-term care facilities and Insurance/Managed care practices or you could work for a Medical supply company, Government Services or a University or Research Institution.

Public Administration
Public Administration Minor
As a Public Administration minor, you could work in local government jobs, education administration, hospital administration and nonprofit organization jobs.
The general minor in Public Administration consists of 15 credits distributed as follows: 9 lower division credits (PO 106, 107, and 245) and 6 upper division credits chosen from the following list (PO 305, 306, 307, 346, 374, 390, 393, 395).
A student cannot major in either political science or public administration and receive a minor in the other area.
Business
Business Minor
The business minor is designed to provide the non-business student with an understanding of the essentials of business methods and practices. Students in communication, mass media, computer information systems and other areas find that the business minor helps them to understand the business content that they will face as they begin their careers.
Students must successfully complete a total of 21-credit hours as specified below.

Meet Graduate Megan Cruz Mendiola
Megan Cruz Mendiola is from the beautiful island of Tinian in the Northern Mariana Islands, a U.S. territory just north of Guam. As a child, Megan had dreams of going to college. Not only was she excited for the college journey, she also became the first college student in her family.
Megan attended a Kansas community college, where she graduated with honors and earned an associate degree in psychology. She then transitioned to Washburn University where she became a full-time distance learning student. In 2018, she earned a Bachelor of Applied Science Degree in Technology Administration with a minor in Communication Studies. She was a regular on both the Dean's List and President's List.
Today, Megan works in her hometown for the Mayor's Office, assigned to the Tinian Health Center where she assists with administration and medical billing.

Students in the TA program pay the traditional undergraduate tuition rate for online courses. Competitive scholarships are available from the School of Applied Studies (SAS) as well as Washburn University.
