Why study legal studies at Washburn?

In this program you'll learn from licensed Kansas attorneys who have expertise in specialized legal areas. Our class sizes are small, allowing for true mentorships to form between students and faculty, recognizing the individual goals of each student and helping students achieve those goals.

Additionally, our courses focus on active learning and hands on, practical skills in addition to critical thinking and legal analysis.

You'll gain hands on experience in:

  • drafting legal documents
  • conducting legal research using Westlaw
  • writing legal memos and correspondence
  • using proper legal citation
  • complying with legal ethics
  • thinking critically about laws and the legal system
  • interpreting statutory law
  • reading, analyzing, and briefing case law.

As a graduate you will be prepared to enter the legal field or law school.
