Classified Position Openings

All University employees who are paid on an hourly basis are considered "Classified." The application procedures for these positions require that you submit a completed Washburn University Application for Employment to the Human Resources Department. Applications are kept on file for 90 days from the date of receipt.  Applicants can request that their Application be copied and submitted for other classified recruitments within that 90 day period by contacting Human Resources.  New vacancies are advertised in the Sunday edition of the Topeka Capital-Journal as well as numerous placement offices and employment organizations.

Building and Grounds Technician

Previous custodial/maintenance work experience.  Ability to work with minimal supervision, follow instructions, work in varied weather and temperature conditions, move and/or maneuver equipment and materials weighing as much as 80 pounds, and operate a forklift and other school vehicles. Knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions, hazardous materials and proper performance of custodial duties.  Valid Kansas driver's license with driving record acceptable under University standards.

Employment at Washburn University and Washburn Tech may be conditioned upon the satisfactory completion of a background check.

Entry rate is $9.49 per hour.

Administrative Specialist, Academic Outreach

High school diploma or GED.  3 years of experience providing administrative support, or completion of a course of study at the post-secondary level in Office Management/Support and 2 years of experience providing administrative support, or college degree and 12 months of work experience in an office environment.  Skilled keyboarding ability.  Demonstrated bookkeeping skills and knowledge of computer applications and database systems.  Proven ability to work efficiently, communicate effectively, multi-task, work effectively with others or autonomously and provide exemplary customer service.  Ability to update and maintain webpages and move and/or maneuver materials weighing up to 30 lbs.

Communications Specialist Supervisor, University Police

High school diploma or GED.  Experience with NCIC and KCJIS computer systems.  Certification by the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials, and as a Public Safety Telecommunicator I.  Ability to work rotating and varied shifts.  Cannot have any felony conviction or any arrest for domestic battery.  Cannot have had a protection from abuse order issued against them.  Must submit to/pass hearing and vision tests.  Must submit to/pass criminal background check.   Experience in a law enforcement agency and/or in a communication center.
