Classified Position Openings

All University employees who are paid on an hourly basis are considered "Classified." The application procedures for these positions require that you submit a completed Washburn University Application for Employment to the Human Resources Department. Applications are kept on file for 90 days from the date of receipt.  Applicants can request that their Application be copied and submitted for other classified recruitments within that 90 day period by contacting Human Resources.  New vacancies are advertised in the Sunday edition of the Topeka Capital-Journal as well as numerous placement offices and employment organizations.

Part-Time, Intermittent University Police Officer

High school diploma or GED.  Ability to work any shift/hours as assigned and to respond to emergency call-back in a reasonable amount of time.  Valid class C Kansas driver's license with acceptable driving record under University standards.  Certification from the Kansas Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training as mandated by state law.  At least 21 years of age.  Demonstrated proficiency in the use of firearms.  No arrests for domestic violence, stalking, dating violence or any classification of these crimes.  No convictions for any felony crime.  Ability to pass a written examination, physical agility test, polygraph examination, psychological examination, drug testing examination and oral interview.

Employment at Washburn University will be conditioned upon the satisfactory completion of a background check.

University Police Sergeant

High school diploma or GED.  4 years of experience as a full-time certified law enforcement officer.  Proficiency using desktop, windows-based computer operating systems and proven ability to learn and adapt to the use of new computer software.  Current certification as a full-time law enforcement officer from the Kansas Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training.  Valid class C Kansas driver's license with acceptable driving record under University standards.  At least 21 years of age.  Freedom from conviction of any felony crime or any classification of the crime of domestic violence or any type of current protection from abuse/stalking order against them.

Employment at Washburn University will be conditioned upon the satisfactory completion of a background check.

Retail Clerk II, Half-Time

High school diploma or GED.  6 months of retail experience.  Knowledge of buying principles.  Demonstrated exceptional customer service skills, computer skills and ability to move and/or maneuver materials and packages weighing as much as 40 pounds.  Attention to detail, negotiation skills, persistence/follow up, communication skills, strong aesthetic sense and merchandising ability.

Unit Leader (Child Care)

High school diploma or GED.  Qualification as a lead teacher according to KDHE regulations by fulfilling one of the following:  5 sessions of observation for not less than 2 1/2 consecutive hours per observation in licensed preschools or child care centers, and one year of teaching experience in licensed centers or preschools, or one year of supervised practicum in a licensed center or preschool; or 7 to 9 semester hours of academic credit or equivalent training in child development or early childhood education, and 3 months of teaching experience in licensed centers or preschools, or 1 year of supervised practicum in licensed centers or preschools; or a child development associate credential (CDA).  Ability to plan and prepare meals for large groups according to the Child and Adult Care Food Program.  Certification in First Aid/CPR.  Ability to move and maneuver equipment, materials, and children weighing as much as 50 pounds.
