Classified Position Openings

All University employees who are paid on an hourly basis are considered "Classified." The application procedures for these positions require that you submit a completed Washburn University Application for Employment to the Human Resources Department. Applications are kept on file for 90 days from the date of receipt.  Applicants can request that their Application be copied and submitted for other classified recruitments within that 90 day period by contacting Human Resources.  New vacancies are advertised in the Sunday edition of the Topeka Capital-Journal as well as numerous placement offices and employment organizations.

Ability to learn the operation and care of vacuum cleaners, scrubbing machines, buffers, and other janitorial equipment; to work effectively with fellow workers and others; to move and maneuver objects weighing as much as 50 pounds; and to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.  Ability to work from a ladder.

Employment at Washburn University will be conditioned upon the satisfactory completion of a background check.

Senior Administrative Assistant

Criminal Justice and Legal Studies

High school diploma or GED.  2 years of experience providing administrative support, or completion of a course of study at the post-secondary level in Office Management/Support and 1 year of experience providing administrative support, or college degree and work experience in an office environment.  Skilled keyboarding ability.  Basic computer and accounting skills.  Experience using Microsoft Office software.  Excellent written & verbal communications skills.  Ability to prepare legal correspondence and documents.

University Police Officer

High school diploma or GED.  Ability to work any shift/hours as assigned and to respond to emergency call-back in a reasonable amount of time.  Valid Class C Kansas driver's license with acceptable driving record under University standards.  Certification from the Kansas Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training as mandated by state law at or within 6 months of hire.  Must be at least 21 years of age.  Demonstrated proficiency in the use of firearms.  No arrests for domestic violence, stalking, dating violence or any classification of these crimes.  No convictions for any felony crime.  Ability to successfully pass a written examination, physical agility test, polygraph examination, psychological examination, drug testing examination and oral interview.

Unit Leader (Child Care)

High school diploma or GED.  Qualification as a lead teacher according to KDHE regulations by fulfilling one of the following:  5 sessions of observation for not less than 2 1/2 consecutive hours per observation in licensed preschools or child care centers, and one year of teaching experience in licensed centers or preschools, or one year of supervised practicum in a licensed center or preschool; or 7 to 9 semester hours of academic credit or equivalent training in child development or early childhood education, and 3 months of teaching experience in licensed centers or preschools, or 1 year of supervised practicum in licensed centers or preschools; or a child development associate credential (CDA).  Ability to plan and prepare meals for large groups according to the Child and Adult Care Food Program.  Certification in First Aid/CPR.  Ability to move and maneuver equipment, materials, and children weighing as much as 50 pounds.
