Classified Position Openings

All University employees who are paid on an hourly basis are considered "Classified." The application procedures for these positions require that you submit a completed Washburn University Application for Employment to the Human Resources Department. Applications are kept on file for 90 days from the date of receipt.  Applicants can request that their Application be copied and submitted for other classified recruitments within that 90 day period by contacting Human Resources.  New vacancies are advertised in the Sunday edition of the Topeka Capital-Journal as well as numerous placement offices and employment organizations.

High school diploma or GED.  Three years of experience providing administrative support, or completion of a course at the post-secondary level in office management/support and two years of experience providing administrative support, or college degree and 12 months of experience providing administrative support.  Skilled keyboarding/data entry ability.  Knowledge and/or understanding of college programs/degrees.  Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, and make complex decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures; to analyze situations and determine potential problems and possible solutions; to tactfully approach customers and resolve differences; to perform widely varied and detailed tasks; to work effectively in a fast-paced environment; and to readily adapt to frequent changes.  Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy.

Administrative Specialist

Unit Leader, Child Care

High school diploma or GED.  Must qualify as a lead teacher according to KDHE regulations by fulfilling one of the following:
--Completion of 5 sessions of observation for not less than 2 1/2 consecutive hours per observation in licensed preschools or child care centers; and 1 year of teaching experience in licensed centers or preschools, or 1 year of supervised practicum in licensed centers or preschools; or
--Completion of 7 semester hours of academic credit or equivalent training in child development or early childhood education; and 3 months of teaching experience in licensed centers or preschools, or 1 year of supervised practicum in licensed centers or preschools; or
--A child development associate credential (CDA). 

Ability to plan and prepare meals for large groups according to the Child and Adult Care Food Program.

University Police Officer

High school diploma or GED.  Ability to work any shift/hours as assigned and to respond to emergency call-back in a reasonable amount of time.  Proficiency using desktop, windows-based computer operating systems and proven ability to learn and apply new computer software.  Valid Class C Kansas driver's license with acceptable driving record under University standards.  Certification from the Kansas Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training as mandated by state law at or as soon as CPOST training allows.  At least 21 years of age.  Demonstrated proficiency in the use of firearms.  No arrests for domestic violence, stalking, dating violence or any classification of these crimes.  No convictions for any felony crime.  Ability to successfully pass a written examination, physical agility test, polygraph examination, psychological examination, drug testing examination and oral interview.

Maintenance Technician II

High school diploma or GED.  Training in Building Maintenance.  Stable/continuous work history.  4 years of experience in Building Trades.  Experience in HVAC and steam boiler operations.  Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, to move and/or maneuver equipment and materials weighing as much as 50 pounds, to work from a ladder, to respond to emergency service calls outside regularly scheduled work hours, and to work various shifts as assigned.  Valid Kansas driver’s license with acceptable driving record under University standards.
