Education Department

Welcome to the Washburn Department of Education website. On behalf of the faculty and staff, I invite you to browse this website to find out more about the faculty, students, activities, and programs that are a part of the Department of Education. Washburn University has a longstanding and rich history of commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and service.

In keeping with this tradition, the Department of Education is committed to preparing Reflective Educators able to effectively teach and lead in a variety of teaching and learning contexts. Please let us know of any questions you might have about our programs. We offer initial teaching licenses and teaching licenses after the completion of a baccalaureate degree. We also have graduate level degrees which lead to teaching licenses. There are other graduate programs in our Department of Education which are degree only. “My time as a Washburn University education student was a wonderful experience. The classes that I took allowed me to teach a variety of classes in many different schools and districts around Topeka. The memories that I made with my mentor teachers and the students will be ones that I will never forget. Not only did I learn from my mentor teachers and the students, I also learned from the professors at Washburn. They took the time to get to know me on a personal level and challenged me to become the best teacher that I can be. I am so honored to have graduated from the Washburn University Education Department!” --Kaitlin Gile, Teacher, Pleasant Hill Elementary
