'Not for ourselves alone'

President Farley throwing out the first pitch at Washburn Night at the K.

When longtime professor and dean of women Charlotte Mendell Leavitt recommended non nobis solum as Washburn's motto more than a century ago, she envisioned a school that had a tremendous impact on its students, alumni and the community.

As the University celebrates to our sesquicentennial in 2015, we continue to take the motto, translated as "not for ourselves alone," to heart.

Washburn continues to give back to alumni and friends, from hosting signature events such as the Sept. 1 Washburn Night at the K (pictured above), Alumni Fellows and Alumni Awards, to our service to the community, to numerous other activities.

Your connection

Serving more than 4,000 members, the Washburn Alumni Association nurtures and supports the relationship between alumni and the university.

We keep you informed on university activities and bring the alumni together to promote fellowship and serve your alma mater.

In addition to hosting a number of events for alumni and friends, the Alumni Association connects you with the university through our mailings, magazine, website and social media.

We also offer traveling opportunities several times a year, including trips to countries across the globe.

In addition, your membership includes a robust benefits package featuring more than 200 discounts at local and national businesses, as well as a complimentary mobile app that notifies you when you're near a participating business.

Student Alumni Association

Take advantage of the opportunity to connect with Ichabods in the community while you're attending Washburn University or Washburn Institute of Technology.

Members of the Student Alumni Association receive the same benefits, including dozens of discounts, as members of the Alumni Association.

The Alumni Association also hosts events specifically for students and can help connect you to alumni already working in your chosen field.

Also, you must be a member of the Student Alumni Association if you are attending Washburn or Washburn Tech to apply for an alumni legacy scholarship.

For only $10 a year, you can join the Student Alumni Association.
