Joe Drape, author and sports writer for The New York Times, will deliver the 2012-2013 iREAD lecture at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, in White Concert Hall, Garvey Fine Arts Center, Washburn University campus. Tickets are free and available at Mabee Library, Washburn campus, and the Topeka Shawnee County Public Library. Following the lecture, Drape will be available for a book signing in the lobby, White Concert Hall and “Our Boys” will be available for purchase.
The book, “Our Boys”, chronicles the 2008 Smith Center, Kan. historic football season and winning streak with Coach Roger Barta and was selected for the 2012 Kansas Reads Project.
Established in 2007, the Washburn iREAD program gives students the opportunity to participate in a common reading experience that expands their critical thinking, discussion and reading skills, while also fostering campus involvement and enhancement of the campus community.
