Classified Position Openings

All University employees who are paid on an hourly basis are considered "Classified." The application procedures for these positions require that you submit a completed Washburn University Application for Employment to the Human Resources Department. Applications are kept on file for 90 days from the date of receipt.  Applicants can request that their Application be copied and submitted for other classified recruitments within that 90 day period by contacting Human Resources.  New vacancies are advertised in the Sunday edition of the Topeka Capital-Journal as well as numerous placement offices and employment organizations.

High school diploma or GED equivalent.  Stable/continuous work history.  Experience in lawn maintenance.  Ability to move and/or maneuver materials and equipment weighing as much as 80 pounds; to operate motorized equipment; mechanical hand tools, and light to heavy duty construction and maintenance equipment; to communicate effectively verbally and in writing;  to work from a ladder; to perform manual labor and to work outside in environmental conditions in all seasons.  Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety and the practices followed in the care, routine maintenance and safe operation of trucks, tractors, mowers and other light to heavy duty equipment.  Valid Kansas driver’s license with acceptable driving record under University standards.

Custodial Worker II, Memorial Union

Prior custodial work experience.  Ability to read and interpret written instructions and/or room diagrams; to reach and lift equipment above shoulders and sustain repetitive lifting and moving motion; to move and maneuver materials and equipment weighing as much as 60 pounds without assistance or 100 pounds with assistance; to work from ladders and hydraulic lift platforms as high as 30 feet; to organize and prioritize tasks and make responsible decisions; to read, comprehend and apply written and verbal instructions in English; to communicate effectively with students, staff, supervisors and other customers; to assist with coordination of student employees; to respond appropriately to questions and/or concerns; to adapt to frequent operational changes; to work outdoors in a variety of climate conditions; to work independently under general supervision.  Ability and willingness to work overtime as required during weekends, evenings and holidays.  Position may require all or some of the following in addition to above requirements according to the position:  Ability to trouble-shoot minor problems with AV equipment, scoreboards, sound systems and other technical equipment.  Ability to use stone floor polishing equipment and techniques.
